I agree ebay fees are CRAZY! I think I'm making money on there but I keep paying my ebay fees thinking "well here goes my profit!". I haven't been doing quite as well as the $2000 a month, but I'm close. I sell about $1,200 a month and am just waiting on my 100 feedback so I can become a powerseller. But on the subject of ebay not being profitable, I disagree. I think it's all in how you sell it. In my area (designer handbags/clothing) it's all in the photos. People who take poor photos get less for their items. People want to KNOW what they are getting, and great photos are the best way to show them.

Of course, that's just the cost of doing business. Just like real estate, it's all about location, location, location.
Think of it like this: You have the choice of opening two brick & mortor store at a location that generates heavy traffic and good buyers or one that generates lighter traffic and so-so buyers. Of course, you will go where the good buyers are, but the landlords at that location will charge you more.
I see eBay as being the same way. Fees are generally higher there, but traffic is, too.

that is very true, but you wont find a same store next to your store in a heavy traffic location, or same 4 or 5 stores. that is the different on ebay and your location. that mean ebay should charge with reasonable price. ebay should consider the profit that seller making. how many people can make 20% profit on ebay. you will not sell this happen in general. so why ebay charge 5% with payal is 8% of total value fees out of 10% of total profit. so you will not sell anything less 15% profit on ebay. that is all different store compare to store in your location

ebay wil ban you faster then a fat man can eat cake, think about it how many tranactions do you have to have before to many people get mad at you for maybe not shipping it fast enough, maybe they didn't want the product after they got it and wanted a refund. there is a million examples. but all those negtives build up and then they ban your account. ebay to me is the hardest place to sell online but also one of the easiest to jump on an d start making real good cash :), fyi I been banned a few times there are ways around there banned system.

I think there is room to make profit in a few areas, but ebay is not the prime opportunity to make profit these days. Operating your own website would serve you much better than ebay ever could.

Yes, there is money to be made on ebay still. If you dont have a lot of capital to start out with, then your best bet would be to stay away from the saturated areas. Like ipods for example. I like to buy popular items in bulk and turn around and sell them cheap. You can do a search on wholesale lots, and maybe youll find something you like. Another good way to increase bids is to start off with $1 no reserve and watch it turn into profits pretty quickly, but I recommend this for popular items mainly. Take a look at other sellers your competing with and see what kind of strategies they're using to sell their products.

People around here are roaming around, about how they can't make a decent profit on eBay. People, eBay has changed over the past years, now if you want to compete with the market, and earn a clean %15-$20 profit, you must buy large quantitys. If you deal in electronics, and you order 10 at a time, and sell them on eBay, then I'm sure your profit would be hanging around at a clean 3-5% at most. All those big powersellers you'v seen, for electronics, they order at least in 1k quantitys. With that quantity order, they can make a good clean 15-20% profit.
EBay isn't here anymore for the low capital sellers, unless you have time to waste on their to make capital. Those powersellers out there, know what their doing, and unless you start clocking in your orders your supplier in the high hundreds or thousands, then don't even waste your time on there.
