Parallel Importing, Grey Market, and the Law

Hello all:

All this is very confusing. To make matters clearer, I will refrain from using the terms in the Title.

I want to buy International Editions of expensive (here in the US) text books from the publisher in India and re-sell them in the US.

1. Is this legal?

2. Does it violate any US or International copyright laws?

3. Are there any International copyright laws?

4. Does this cheat the authors out of their royalties?

5. Is it ethical?

Anyone know the answers to the above?
