Hello everyone!! I was thinking of starting this thread after realizing there are many good sites on the net which look good and legit but are a SCAM! This thread will be dedicated to any tips and tricks to watchout for.
This will allow us all to learn from each other and stay safe.
Please post any tips and tricks people should watchout for and if you have any list of example sites, please provide that too.
Just because a site is verified by "HACKER SAFE" or has a website "CERTIFICATE" does not meen it is legit.
Also, i found a good site about a person in NY (the business scam city) which goes around and makes pictures of ALL the posible websites on line that state they are from the "NY, Brucklin" area. The site is cool and makes you realize what is going on now on the net. If you are interested let me know and Ill post it here!
Hope you enjoy it!!!And please provide any tips for safe shopping.

Scammers are smart and theyre getting smarter everyday. So you cant always tell If a website is legit or not just by looking at it. This past weekend, I was on tradekey looking for a wholesale supplier. They had a website along with msn chat for me to speak with them online. I got on msn chat to speak with one of their representatives about the products they sold. Whatever questions I asked, she made sure to come up with a quick response.
I then asked her how long has their website been established. She all of sudden went silent and stopped answering my questions. So I made sure to ask her again. What she didnt know was Id already did a whois search on her company. So she finally answered me and said for 10 months. I asked, so around January? She responded, no February. My research showed that the website was established in July.
Like mentioned before on this forum, you have to ask alot of questions until you are fully satisfied. A legit business will answer to your hearts content in order to gain your trust and a possible long term partnerhsip. Scammers will normaly go quiet and start ignoring you when the questions get tough. As for websites, do a whois search on the business. See if the contact numbers match up to the owners name and address location. See if this information adds up when you ask the seller questions.
yes, you can do whois check, but make sure that match their company, not personal

Your IP method maybe workable, but as far as I know, there are many seller's staff do not know "whois" and related knowledge.
But I agree with you that the match of the contact number and address is very useful. Because scammers always change their address or phone number.

HI,
I am new here and this is the first time I heard about a whois search. can anyone tell me how this is done?
Thanks
http://www.whois.sc/ put in the website domain name in the search feature then the details of the website will appear , who is registered to where its located , etc
Hello World
i was recently approached by someone on a social site who i believe to be a scammer. i did a whois search on the domain name given by this person and the person or company comes up with a prague origin. also the owner of the site seems to have hundreds of domains most of which are now no longer active. is that a dead giveaway for a scammer?
