Default How to introduce products to wholesalers/retailers

    Hi,
I'm going to start a small home based jewelry wholesale business, and I'm thinking of selling them to other online wholesalers/retailers or shops. I'm not sure how to effectively introduce the products to them while keeping the cost low b/c I think they want me to send them samples. If I'm sending samples to let say about 10 stores, it would cost me hundreds of dollars regardless of whether or not they're going to carry the products. Do you have any suggestions/advices? Thank you.

Homeless, you may think I am giving you a wise-guy answer, but I am not, I am simply telling you as it is.

If you have to ask, you do not know or understand business in general and the jewelry business in particular and you should find something else to do.

I do not want to hurt your feelings, or come across as a bad guy, but wholesaling of any product line requires a knowledge of not only the products but that specific industry.

And the simple fact is that if you have to come to a forum to ask how to wholesale jewelry, you do not know what you are doing. You will either be ignored or taken advantage of, with either one causing you to lose your investment.

I caution you to try something else and not jump into wholesaling anything without some knowledge of that business and how to contact and communicate with your prospects.

    I completely agree with pete.
If you don't have any knowledge about jewelry or anything you want to do wholesale business, the best way is not to try doing it.
Or you can learn from now on.But it may take your much long precious time i think.

Homeless. Don't let those two replys detour you. I started with no wholesale experience and now have a solid multiple six figure a year wholesale business. You can start small by calling on local shops and asking them to try your jewelery out on consignment or cod with a gauranteed sale. Give them a 50% profit. Ex. Their cost 10.00 retail 20.00. If you truly believe in yourself and your products, then don't listen to any naysayers. Set a goal to get 1 or 2 new accts per week, and you'll be cranking in a year. Good luck!

    Homeless,
Having been working as a General Manager for a wholesale site for many years now, I will have to agree with pete to a certain amount of extent. He is right on the knowledge part you need to know your product, their people who have no knowledge of their product are they are sellers on eBay and Amazon, and all their knowledge is a cut and copy basis,(trust me we have over 40 eBay dealers and I think 1 knows the product. So you can see where it can be easy to get ripped off I could have done it countless times but we have a professional business and that will never happen here.

As far as doing consignment that's a 50 50 as well because you have your money sitting out there just waiting to be sold. I get very nervous when we purchase 2.3 mil worth of product from china in 1 order...and all we can do is hope it sells.

My suggestion to you is research, research, research is very important. You will gain all the knowledge you need to learn how to wholesale. And good luck to you!!
