    Default Brokers vs. Wholesellers?

    Hello All,

I currently source manufacturing products and industrial tooling in China. Because of this I have a person in China to handle my business over there. I have recently began considering moving into a consumer product line that I could import from China. Depending on the product and it's cost I would purchase the inventory for re-sell.

From what I have read on this forum that would make me a broker. Some post on this forum suggest not to do business with brokers. Is being a broker that bad? What is the difference between a broker and a wholeseller?

i think there is nothing to compare with . broker and wholesaler is function differently. but broker is handling your supply to wholesalers. wholesaler is supply to retailers. there is nothing bad to be both, as long as u you good relationship with each other , more important is trust. especially partners are far away.

They are pretty much the same in your case, only difference is that the broker/wholesaler is near the manufacturer, I presume in HK.

Technically a Broker is a person who gets an order from a customer and sources that product from wherever for that particular deal.

A Wholesaler is somebody who carries physical inventory of a range of products that they have purchased. They then re-sell these products to others.

The largest difference between the two is that a Broker NEVER puts up their own money. A Wholesaler does (whether it is their own money or money from a venture soursce etc).

I can't answer as to whether you are technically a broker or a wholesaler, or a principal since you don't give enough detail, but that is the basic difference.
