Hi everybody.
I am new to this forum and to on line business. I lost my job a couple of months ago and since I do not see any possibility to find a job in my field because of my age (I am 55) and other factors I decided to change my field and start selling items on ebay to make money for living....But the more I search the more I am disappointed. I have been looking into 10s of "wholesale" or "drop shipping" sites for electronics for days and there has not been one single source that offers prices less than what you can find in ebay. In fact all of them are above average price the items are sold on ebay? Is there a secret in this field that I am not aware of?

Tradeonline, I am a dropshipper and send out thousands of dollars a day worth of unbranded electronics for ebay sellers. I know my prices are not the lowest, but my sellers are damned stupid they don't know any better. Can you imagine someone ordering from me over 100 times for goods for me to dropship to their ebay customers? How dumb can they be?
Or, maybe it's how wise they are to offer a better grade of product, one that goes out and stays out. One that their buyers don't toss in the trash after 60 days and think they got screwed?
Maybe they even realize that if everything sold on ebay was the cheapest, they would not sell anything. Well, they just don't think that way. They keep on selling daily and I know for a fact they are not losing money.
If you are determined to be the cheapest guy on ebay, with any product, you have a real struggle, as there are others just as dedicated to do that, and you can't all be the lowest.
You have to understand there are all sorts of goods offered there, just as there are all sorts being manufactured. Something as simple as an MP3 or MP4 player can have untold different levels of quality. There are hundreds of "factories" making these, from real contractors who build them for the major brand companies, to people operating out of their kitchen or bedroom.
The cheaper ones will have used parts, even used memory inside. (I had one guy tell me of buying a new cell phone that had 57 contacts already in memory). There are people who go out every day, scavenging used bits and pieces.
There are many products sold with less memory than stated. There is even a half-dozen or so levels of batteries for MP players, phones, etc. Even the larger factories will let you choose from Samsung memory, Taiwan memory, South Korean memory, good China memory or just plain China memory. The same with batteries, even different thicknesses of the casings.
Without understanding this you can easily feel that "they're all the same", but they are not and the people who can sell quaility will get a higher price and a better profit.
I wish you well, but you have to change your attitude and learn more about the products being offered.

hi, how this site work please!
Thanks Pete and IpodKing for your replies.
Pete, I understand what you are saying. In cases like what you sell (unbranded ipods for example) what you say makes sense. Different prices could be related to different qualities. But I was talking for branded items. Like different Nikon cameras, different Sandisk memories, different Garmin GPS's, different Microsoft mobile mouses and tens of other branded items that I compared the prices. I not only compared ebay prices with what is offered by companies like Doba or dropship access (honestly I did not expect good prices from these companies in first place) but also with many whole sellers that I could find their sites ..The only place that you can find lower prices are those scammers on sites like Alibaba.com and although I am not experienced but this does not mean I am an idiot and waste my money on them.
I know finding a good source takes time but I have not even been close to prices offered on ebay...That is why I asked you guys maybe I am missing something.
There are no good sources to speak of on those items. What you see are either fakes or being sold by large companies who are registered distributors (maybe selling through front companies).
You are talking about goods with controlled distribution and low profit margains.
You can beat your head against the wall trying to be a little man in a big corporate market, with low profits per unit, even for the big guys, OR you can join those of us selling unbranded goods and making some money.
If you are interested in the prestige of offering name brands at a low profit rather than unbranded, no-name goods and making money, then you will continue on your search.
If you want to make money selling products, you will keep in mind the wise words of columnist George F. Will -
The price difference between "the best" and the adequate often is much larger than the quality difference.
We dropship quality unbranded goods and have a number of folks worldwide selling our products and making nice profits do so.
